|
|
I'm going to be moving soon and I'm shipping some of my vinyl to my new address. I've never shipped large numbers of records before so what are some of the "do's" and "do not's" of shipping bulk amounts of records.
Any advice would be much appreciated! _________________ Scepter Of Eligos - Sludge/Thrash

Since we receive tons of records from the factory, I use their standard boxes to pack however many fit, then couple those together into a larger box, cut down to size and all taped together. Then there's 2-3 layers of cardboard, and they're rigidly in place.
They basically come transported from the factory this way, and we've not received a damaged record from the factory yet.
For extra security, add bubble wrap.
In essence, if you don't have these, I'd just get a few cruciform mailers and bubble wrap them, putting as many as you can comfortably fit into the mailer. Then put them all inside a larger box or two that you can cut down to form-fit/tape around it.
Cushion + tightness + layers of packaging should do the trick. _________________ motW/Lykathea Aflame/Sigh/Thy Catafalque/SYL available

Triple box it. Don't just pile them in there too tight. You don't want them to be too loose either. Lots of padding. Take the vinyl out of the jacket and/or inner sleeve if printed.

What I've been doing on particularly large orders is sending them in large boxes with lots of padding, such as this
[xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]
|xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx|
{{{{{{{}}}}}}}
{{{{{{{}}}}}}}
|xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx|
[xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]
x = void and squigly brackets = the inner box where the LPs are. Since the LPs aren't near any of the 8 corners, their risk of damage is minimized since the 8 corners is where the vast majority of damage occurs.
Just one way, there are others _________________ http://www.fallenempirerecords.com/

Oh wow... I didn't know they made these available for others to order and use! The HHB mailers I mean. Thanks for posting that, it was news to me. They are the Rolls Royce of LP mailers for sure, custom made!! _________________ ***************************

No, Yosuke primarily uses these along with a GZ inner box to keep the LPs suspended in the center and away from the crush zones, with packing material filling the voids:

Those HHR mailers are probably fine for a few LPs but I wouldn't try to put 10 in them. The problem is that the crush zones are just filled with air, so there is nothing there to absorb impact if they are dropped. The weight of 10 LPs would render those edges useless on impact. |

Those HHR mailers haven't been up for sale in awhile, that's good news. _________________

NWN's packaging is superior to every one else's. Bubble wrap does not protect vinyl in any way. There needs to be a crush gap around the LP. _________________

We are. I believe the NFL sometimes practice in the USPS sort centers around the country with stacks of lp filled mailers as their tackle dummies.
