Originality is a key factor when discussing the best bands of a given genre -what the thread is all about in the end. A clone -no matter how good- will always be 2nd rate if compared to the real deal, which is why DaQ will never manage to top those classics despite being decent enough.
On a larger perspective and strictly artistical plan, metal is a dying genre: it has reached its peak long ago and can only repeat itself at this point, so once the classic bands are gone all we'll be left with is a few decent copycats and little else. Out of the post-90ies bands I can't think of any who has the needed potential and talent to carry the torch on to the next generations (Watain perhaps but that's about it) so face it, no modern thrash album will ever top Reign in Blood and no Hammerfall will ever come close to the magic of early Maiden/Dio/Helloween. That of course doesn't imply we can't expect more excellent bands/records to be released but the best of the show has been broadcast already.
