| Quote: | | But people get vexed as soon as one tell them they listen to unartistic bands (which I of course listen to as well), just like if listening to whatever rock/metal band was like fighting for their honour. I remember when on a French webzine I stated about a black metal band that I like it wasn't art; and members started to tell me they wanted to meet me to explode my head, haha. |
It's because metal fans and/or artists unfortunately lack of insight on their own music (having one's nose to the grindstone, and listening nothing but metal). It's the same thing in every other genres.
But (to clarify my point) when I say that "rock/metal are basically not art", I don't say it's "shitty music", I say it's a music that have been done to be fundamentally incorrect, a music which don't care about concept, esthetism, form, in short all the criterias of art music - and that's why we love it. _________________ Hen kai Pan |

I have liked every metal "classic," there is not one album or record that I can think of dismissing. It all felt new, fresh, extraordinary. To me it was so easy to appreciate that. In a way it felt like the best music anyone could create.
Ultimately, heavy metal is good music. That's what it is to me and that's what I call it. |

Man I like art and shit, but I could give a right fuck if people consider metal to be 'art'.
The discussion itself borders on preposterous. Who decides what "art" is?
And more importantly, who gives a fuck.... _________________ http://www.last.fm/user/ngadke |

Respect what they did for metal, I just can't get into them. |
I can understand that to some degree, it also took me years to fully appreciate them. |
Same here. "Killing Technology" was one of the first metal LPs I got and it took me several years to get into it - it's definately not for starters. But "Tornado" is one of the best songs ever!
The first two are easier, especially the debut. Maybe try again with those? _________________ Good/Bad traders list

First Voivod I got was Nothingface and it blew my mind. Nothing else really compared to that one for me, although I like War & Pain well enough I suppose.
Is there a Voivod album that is similar to Nothingface that I've missed, perhaps? |

I respect Venom and their place in history and all of that, but I never have the urge to listen to them. |
