| I always figured that they didn't mind doing their own thing, at their own pace, for themselves first. They don't strike me as a band that feels the need to make albums and play a lot of shows for the sake of it. |

How come that this album wasn't a success? Probably too profound stuff for the majority of the listeners, who prefer to scratch the surface... |
I think the main reason for this is the song structures. I'm sure they could have become huge had they taken their sound in a more hook orientated direction like Dissection did on Storm, and At The Gates on Slaughter. As much as I like The Chasm it always annoyed me that they never tried to do that. Write an album that wasn't as "floating", though that works great for them most of the time. |
To some extent I know what you mean, and it could be said for a lot of bands. On the other hand, a lot of The Chasm's intensity live comes from exactly that floating/foggy kind of approach. It is totally hypnotic and wouldn't work any other way. A lot of good bands end up sounding pretty blah in comparison. I'm not sure tight songs with choruses etc. would be an improvement. |
It's true that their formula has worked just fine for the last 7 full-lenghts, but that's exactly the point. I'd be interested in seeing where they could go with another approach while still keeping the riffs and melodies intact. Doesn't have to be an "improvement". Just another glance at the diamond from a different perspective. _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/ |

If anyone read any of their interviews they'd know that this is 100% correct _________________

Slightly off-topic, but has anyone noticed the distortion/jarring sounds on the cymbals and the guitars in the left speaker on the Witches Brew version of Conjuration of The Spectral Empire? I hadn't listened to the CD in years and threw it on my ADAM A7X monitors. It sounds really bad to say the least. So I'm wondering if this was a recording or mastering mistake. Maybe the Lux Inframundis version sounds better? _________________ http://www.dissectionforum.dk/ |

I know Julio Viterbo has had some health problems, so that also could be why. They were great when I saw them at Maryland Deathfest a few years ago, I was hoping that would have started a fire to get them doing more, but I guess not. _________________ Ave Satanas -I- |

Yeah, he has some bad kidney issues and gets dialysis. But, I think the reason for inactivity is on Corchado's part. Julio still comes out to a lot of shows and has been active with Shub Nigguroth . Sucks either way... such a great , unique band. |

In all honestly, Farseeing... would be a fabulous swansong, and I don't feel that the band needs to say any more with its music that it hasn't already said. Now, would I complain if there's eventually another album? Of course not. _________________ http://www.thehereticstorch.blogspot.com/

Man, I tried to listen to the The Chasm albums a few times... it never grabbed me.
I know there is talent there in spades, I can hear that, but fuck, it just never would draw me back in without some forceful action to try.
A album I force myself to listen to cause something I know, like they are talented and should be liked is just not a good sign. |
