Alright so I have two floor model ESS (Electrostatic Systems) speakers and SAE amp and preamp, all purchased in the early 1970s. Until today they worked, but they had problems ever since I took it for my personal use—noisy, cutting in and out. Cleaning helped but wasn’t enough. Unscrewing it all, spraying it with cleaner, and putting it back together seemed to help but I fear I may have just made it worse. Now the light's out on my preamp and both lights on the regular amp are out too. On top of that, the Technics SL-1300 which I thought I just repaired broke down again. I think this indicates its' time to lay this 40 year old monster to sleep. This is the only stereo I've ever owned or needed to own since it lasted so damn long, but all good things come to an end.

Now I know turntables pretty well. I'm not as concerned with that as I am the other stuff: amp, pre amp, speakers, you know the drill. I was just wondering what your set ups are: which brands you've felt delivered the highest quality performance and were worth the money. The (as of today) unusable system I have was given to me by my father who bought it 40 years ago. I wouldn't say it's time for an upgrade, but a makeup grade would be nice.

It's possible I might get it fixed as I'm not crazy about letting it go/retiring it to a basement with a blanket and a "so long thanks for all the hours." If I can resurrect the beast I'll apologize for wasting y'alls time *trollface*

Also I realize pics would help but I'm without a camera. My bad.
