Been listening to Arcane Sun quite a lot recently. And I can decide if I really like it yet, but Rapture (Finland) seems to capture the early Katatonia sound decently. _________________ www.contagionreleasing.com |

I think its a bit unfair to generalize and say they changed style because of profit-dreams. Ever had the idea that bands change style because of some sort of development or because they don't want to repeat the same shit ad nauseam?
anathema: absolute non-profit. had never the chance to reach "big" public. good music even now.
katatonia: great development. wonderful music til now. and stuff like viva emptiness is certainly not for the teenage mainstream pissers.
PL: the only ones that reek of "wanne make profit" but they failed and returned to the old style more or less. nevertheless: how should they have evolved after draconian times? falling back to doom death? the tried something new and fucked up. end of story.
generally: if bands evolve, just listen to the 1397 other bands that sound similar or even better within the same style, and don't complain and call them pile of shit. |

I am going to have to bring up Dusk again. I just listened to "Majestic Thou in Ruin" for the first time in ages and was fucking floored by it. Mercilessly heavy. Are any of these dudes still playing music, or easy to get ahold of? _________________ www.contagionreleasing.com |

Dan, I'll have a dig, but I should have a copy of that Anthropomancy demo somewhere!
The other "Majestic Thou in Ruin" is killer, I had that years ago and sold it, really regret it because I visited it some years later and realised it was killer!
Early Morgion deserves a lot more praise than they get as well, granted the last album sucked, but the early material is killer, and Solinari has to be one of the genre's most original albums. |

Opening track was a big favourite of mine when I was a kid. |

Probably already mentioned somewhere in this topic, but first Ataraxie album is great. Also the demo The Other Path is good. Not a big fan of the second album. They seemed to be going more in the direction of Funeralium sound, but less good.
Also first Imindain album is pretty good stuff. EDIT: And only album apparantly...Didn't know they split-up : ( |
