This is not a joke.

I was listening to the album in my brother in law's car radio. He has one of those digital radio things in the car with a metal station. I was surprised to hear how well the album was produced. It sounds very analog as if they recorded on a 2" reel to reel. Musically not so interesting though.

Ive liked the band since Orchid and I was a little nervous about buying this new one after I heard they ditched metal completely. But then I read an article talking about where their heads were during the recording process. They spoke about wanting an analog sound and recording on the 2 inch you speak of .....now Im curious to hear it at least. I just havent bought it yet cause Im afraid that it will suck donkey balls.

I really like it, and i know i'm in a minority. It does sounds amazing though, i think in recent years the best production i have heard was on Electric Wizard's Witchcult Today.

I'm a fan of false Opeth but this record just wasn't doing it for me, however I will agree the production is exceptional.

I really gabe it a fair chance, I really like the prog elements they incorporate but I jump shop at the John McLaughlan-esque freakouts however..... it wasn't doing it for me......

The difference is that McLaughlin can play. These clowns just write dull, uninspired garbage.

With the exception of Ghost Reveries and Watershed, I believe all the Opeth albums were recorded on analog anyway.

What does it matter if their guitar tones came from a Boss Metal Zone?

Yep, the production on this album is the only positive attribute it has going for it.

If I want prog, I'll listen to Yes or King Crimson, not Opeth.

They completely lost me after "Still Life" , which is still one of my desert island albums. After that they shit the bed.

Yeah, my complaint is this one feels like paint by numbers prog/fudion, like they wrote out a script and sort of filled in the blanks "okay this the king crimson part, then the bitches brew bridge and a camel esque outro......"

I really like Deliverance, Watershed and even Ghost Receries had some tight shit on it but for me this isn't cutting the heavy metal mustard for me, and that has nothing to do with the clean vocals......

Is that a joke?

I thought the new Opeth sounded great, but like everyone says, it's musically dull as dishwater. You can tell what bands they've plagurised each section from, but none of the songs seem to flow or have any energy.

I always found the production on all Opeth records to be extremely effective, regardless of the band's sexual leanings.
