Was never a big fan of Unleashed or Merciless.
'Into The Grave' was OK, 'You'll Never See...' was better, but Grave is not a band I spend much time listening to.
'Like an Everflowing Stream' has a few great tracks, but I prefer 'Dark Recollections'. Dismember and Carnage shouldn't have been listed separately IMO, as they were almost the same band.
I voted for Entombed / Nihilist, but my favourite old Swedish death metal band is THERION by a long way. Can't believe no-one has mentioned them yet. 'Of Darkness...' and 'Beyond Sanctorum' are two of the best albums I've ever heard.

It seems like the incarnation of Carnage that recorded the full-length was 50% Dismember and 50% Michael Amott.

I totally agree with you on THERION, with early EDGE OF SANITY, they were probably the darkest Death Metal band from Sweden!

| From the 80ies i'm really into Obscurity, Morbid and Merciless (for the awakening), 90ies I love Grotesque. But I voted for Entombed LHP, timeless masterpiece. |

Going by consistency it is DISMEMBER, going by the bands first 2 lps being (maybe) better than everyone on the lists it is ENTOMBED.

The best GRAVE lp is "You'll Never See" for sure!
Way more memorable than the debut.

Well yeah haha... There are a number of bands I would choose over any of these choices! ...I was just commenting on the poll
Excruciate!, Epitaph!, Sorcery! Wombbath!, Crematory!, Liers In Wait!, Gorement!, Utumno!, Seance!, God Macabre!, Uncanny!, House of Usher, Necrophobic, Crypt of Kerberos, Authorize, Grotesque, Toxaemia, Interment, Therion, Desultory,....Hypocrisy, etc, etc...

I really like some of the bands you mentioned here (Excruciate, Wombbath, Liers in Wait, Uncanny) but better than Carnage/ Entombed/Unleashed/Merciless? Come on now.. 
And others you mentioned are decent (at best) 2nd rate stuff (Interment, Authorize, Epitaph) definitely not better than any of the bands in the poll.

I voted for Carnage, always enjoyed them a bit more than Dismember. All great bands though.
I still say Unleashed is pretty underrated, their first two albums are some of the best albums in all of death metal.

Beyond Sanctorum is mandatory! So is the first Tiamat! The two most important in my eyes however are Darkified and Grotesque! |
