Didn't Master have christian leanings? |
Well the only evidence I can think of for that being a possibility is the fact that Paul Speckman I think applied for the bass position in Trouble... anyone who can confirm that? It would be good to know for certain... |

Speckmann is christian. A quick look at Master's lyrical content should be enough evidence of that + he mentioned it in several interviews.

For flat out anti religious ideas you would be better off with punk or hardcore...no devotion to the darkside there... |

Actually the main idea is just opposition to Christianity, particularly mainstream Christianity, so even Satanism will do, and should actually (hopefully) make for a more interesting paper. Anyway, I think I've found enough for now (I found a good Immolation interview that will be especially useful), so thanks everyone for your tips. |

If my memory serves right, there is also Vincent Crowley/Acheron vs. Bob Larson somewhere in cyberspace. |

Master lyrics:
Who the hell cares where you go when you die
The church is in ruins the memories erased
The preacher will die and I spit in his face
also
What kind of god is senseless and weak
A product of mans own disease
Tormenting with hatred, lust and envy
A product of weakness that is worshiped daily
Perhaps later he changed, but lyrics like these gave me the idea he was anti religion. |

Same opinion here.
I remember an old interview where he voiced his disdain over bands using religion in general as an image without being knowledgeable about it.
His lyrics are based on reality (whatever that means hah) rather than fiction anyway. _________________ A nobody in a world of somebodies.

Your best bet would be with older death metal bands and demo death/black bands.
Profanatica
Acheron
Morbid Angel
early Deicide
early Nunslaughter
Their interviews might not be good sources though. I doubt poorly structured anti-Christian rantings by some proto-genre bands would be good sources for your assignment. |

I also thought about Profanatica as an example for somewhat fetishized blasphemy (nakedness on stage, defecation on holy symbols etc) as this is a direct attack on puritan values/codified behaviour.
Early Morbid Angel might also yield something... _________________ A nobody in a world of somebodies.
