Looking for tips on real metal with powerful clean vocals, later than 1989. No jolly "folk" or "viking" bullshit, no "operatic" wailing and ABSOLUTELY no throaty screech verses and singalong chorus shiteating. No second-rate pop songs dressed up as "metal." I realize I'm being pretty narrow here, but I know this music must've been played by someone when I was busy winning the lottery, guzzling champagne, crushing enemies, lamentations, etc. and didn't pay enough attention.
These are the ONLY examples I could think of that fit the bill:
SLOUGH FEG
LAMENTED SOULS
PRIMORDIAL
SOLSTICE
ISENGARD (obivously not the Swedish band, though don't think this means I approve of any other "folk" related fuckery)
I would specify "male vocals" in the topic, but if there should exist such a thing as a female fronted metal band that isn't tailored for 17-yearold basement-dwelling virgins I suppose I'd be inclined to hear it. Can't say I expect it though!

Agatus has some good clean vocals on The Weaving of Fates, except this is black metal.

Just thinking post-1989 to avoid stuff I'm likely to have heard already. Definitely not hating on 70's and 80's material.

The Devil's Blood is also some high quality female fronted metal/hard rock.
Kind of an unholy union of Maiden/Lizzy/Fleetwood Mac with a chick that sounds quite a bit like Bruce Dickinson in certain registers. Good shit. |
