I've had both of their albums for the longest time, but wasn't really blown away or anything when I first heard them. I've been listening to both of them nonstop the past few days and the songs will not leave my head. I've gotta say this is some of the best "black" metal I've heard in so long. Well played and well crafted songs, I especially like the bass sound, something you don't hear very often from this music. The bass in the song "Pavor Nocturnus" is incredibly catchy and atmospheric. Usually the vocals in bands like this turn me off, but these are pretty good.

Recommend more high quality depressive black metal. Check out Sterbend (share members w/ Nyktalgia, the vocals are awful but the songs are great), Beatrik, Deinonychus and Bethlehem of course.
I'm not crazy about Silencer, the vocals ruin it. I'm also firmly in the "Shining sucks" camp...
I_LOVE_PENIS faggots can fuck right off in advance if you have nothing worth adding to this thread. |

| I have to agree. I thought they were complete shit the first few times I heard them. But then I downloaded the second album and it really started to grow on me over time. Definitely one of the best at what they do. |

I think Desolation Triumphalis is a really underrated band with great melancholic riffs. Wouldn't call them depressive though.

Nyktalgia > Peisithanatos > Nekrolog
That song from that album from that band is excellent. Was worth grabbing the album alone just for that, the rest of the material is alright... but nothing quite as genius as that one song. The first album I never did buy, only heard a download a few times and never really got into it. |

It's hard for me to pick which album I like most, just listen to this song from the self titled album... again, prevalent bass in this track:

Good call. I'm very familiar with this band. I'd also mention Kristallnacht and Seigneur Voland. Also, Sombre Chemin - Doctrine is a very good album in this vein. |

| The second album is ingenious. The first one never really caught me, should listen to that one more too. |

| The bass in the second album is a necessary part of the atmosphere for "depressive" black metal... the most haunting songs that I can think of utilize the lower end to accentuate the guitar riffs. Great band indeed. |

Peisithanatos is an outstanding album period, irregardless of subgenres. I eagerly await the next album. Sterbend ain't half bad either. _________________ www.contagionreleasing.com |

I don't sense the similarity between Urfaust/Nyktalgia vocals. Agreed about the Wigrid part though.
The first track on Peisithanatos is probably the highlight of the album for me, the first self-titled release has to be one of the best "depressive black metal" albums I've ever heard. _________________ T. Terrorist Photography: Official | Facebook |

| Amazing band. Only properly listened to them as of last week. These guys and Austere top the ranks with the whole DSBM thing. |

Agreed. These bands are great. I'm going to have to give Nyktalgia a second chance. I've only listened to Peisithantanos once. The poster that came with the vinyl is fucking hilarious, too. _________________ A TERRE RECORDS

Not really depressive but Luror, is great stuff, particulary the first one the ST album. Similar vocal delivery, only superior.
