I overlooked a lot of these for years, but Im finally getting around to giving them full listens, and theres some great stuff here!

A Dead Poem was actually my introduction to Rotting Christ so it gets my vote, with Theogonia close behind (great fucking riffs on this one)

You should have added the option
"never got into them after Triarchy... and quit."

first album I listened to was Theogonia, from there I went back and listened to their whole discography. nowadays I think that their older albums are the best but Theogonia still has a special place for me

A Dead Poem and Sleep Of The Angels are still good as long as you orient yourself the right way and forget about TMC or even Triarchy for a while. They work best as mellow and melodic dark metal albums.

Theogonia should be placed as "modern/late" RC era. After all, they've been rehashing that album ad nauseam.

A Dead Poem works well as a sort of blackened gothic album. Xytras' keys sound great, but that sound was already perfected on Triarchy.

This is a band that released excellent albums at first, then they went to the toilet and never recovered. Theogonia was a sort of high point on their late career but the formulaic approach of songwriting was already evident there.

I thought it was quite alright when it came out, and I could set aside the modern black metal ailments it had. Today I went back to it a little bit and couldn't take it anymore. Some good riffs weren't enough. Aealo was already full on terrible, and they've been doing that crap ever since.

"a dead poem" along with "sleep of the angels" are the highlights of the list above. sanctus diavolos had very interesting moments, very original songwriting there.
