I'm not an expert on classical, but I know what I like. My favourite Classical piece ever being Faure's Requiem, outstanding. Shostakovich's 8th and 10th are brilliant too.

You are a joker, asking that question on a board dominated by people into black metal and similar stuff, who generally tend to appreciate that music as well.

Excellent. Can't hurt to talk it up then.

I'm suprised how many people are into Faure here, I always thought he was looked over for not being as "loud" as other composers.

Beethoven is my favourite, also like Mozart, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, etc.

Stravinsky & Schonberg for the orchestral death metal Twisted Evil

Fréderic Chopin OP. 10 & 25 for some really melancholic and beautifully tender piano music

I have nothing against a good talk about good music, I was just reacting to the way you asked.

Some of my favorite composers are definitely Vivaldi and Bach. ...Caprice No. 24 by Paganini is amazing.
Also, anyone interested in great contemporary classical music should listen to Kronos Quartet!

I have a bunch of box sets from Decca - Haydn, Händel, Verdi but I just took them from a colleague as she wanted to get rid of those. Good music nevertheless!

But I prefer early modern composers, experimental stuff and musique concrete, Mossolov, Xenakis, Nono...

Actually, I intend to visit a two day concert - date dedicated to early modern composers in August but it is in the middle of nowhere in Northern Germany.
Anybody interested in teaming up for that, drop me a pm!

I liked "A Fifth of Beethoven" from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Sort of like a Von version of the original with some added Mercyful Fate funk drumming.
