Some recommendations...

RUSSIA

Fatum, first two LPs. Crude UK crust worship from Moscow.
First one has more Amebix and Axegrinder influences, the second one is more Sacrilege and Hellbastard oriented. They both include translations, though second one only has the English translation, no original Russian lyrics printed.

New one is a great Venom worship (maybe the drum sound could be better) but it is sung in English.

SERBIA

Dazd - s/t LP (Fuck Yoga recs)

Amazing lyrics (inner sleeve also includes translations to English), the sound is somewhere between Amebix, Hellhammer, Pentagram, GISM and Killing Joke). Pagan anarcho metal/punk.

Propoved - Onaj koji niko jeste (demo tape, Odmetnik)

Balkan heretic doom metal. Candlemass, Hellhammer, Black Hole, Nigro Mantia... Best Serbian lyrics I've read. No translations sadly.

Good picks !!!

There's a lot of great BM coming from Russia and Belarus IMO, better than from Iceland or whatever country is on today's hype list.

I do enjoy some Icelandic Metal (unspeakably majestic country btw) but sadly this Orthodox scene does not really has much to offer anymore, it initially sounded like some good DSO/Si Monvmentvm worship which I have nothing against, but by now it has evolved to something I cannot even describe.

Not sure if you checked out his other releases under Khnuth. The first album is somewhat similar with the one released under the Волчий Источник name since it was recorded around the same time in prison.

Svrm - Barely found out about this Ukrainian guy a few weeks ago after listening to his recent EP; so far the discography is pretty solid.

Won't bring wonders, as I'm as critical to Russian lyrics as Tireheb to Finnish. Wink Devorator is absolute, at least I haven't read anything more solid. All classics were mentioned already, Old Wainds, Навь, Мор, Вечночернь (primitive, but very effective, "I love to burn in Hell" is a fucking gem!)... You know, it's like I've been told by one French fellow, you'll never be a fan of Peste Noire if you understand their lyrics (that was about 10 years ago). Laughing

Famine is a skilled writer. Wink The content of his lyrics is another topic, though.

Haha, he is talented indeed (but ought to be shot, nevertheless). Smile One of my local comrades is fluent in French and once made partial translation of Diapsiquir lyrics. Then I understood why LSK was shocked - "how can you enjoy that band without understanding their lyrics?!" Laughing

They had some alright lyrics but those you quoted are MEGA CRINGY.

For someone who is currently studying about Serbia and doesn't know the language, I believe those would be a great start. Straightforward to the bone, easy to understand, hard core/punkish vibe (at least to me)...

Of course the band has far better lyrics, but he's not yet able to understand 'em.

Same, from watching a few Serbian movies I can already read/memorize Brother, Sister, Blood, Death, etc.

Slavic languages are not that hard to learn, the cyrillic script is what gives a false impression that it is a distant language, but the cyrillic is also quick to get used to.

Any good Doom Metal sung in Russian, Belorussian, or Ukrainian? I asked for BM in preference because I am looking for dark stuff in both lyrics and ambience.

If you are OK with punk, Satan Panonski had some of the darkest lyrics ever. Also old Siberian punk / folk whatever had dark lyrics https://youtu.be/BIUji-zYNaQ

Very dark stoner doom in Ukrainian. The lyrics are barely audible, though.
