Darkenhold. They nail that 90's black metal medieval style.

Sorry Marl, I already mentioned that this thread existed, but it did not got to the point that the title implied.

And by Medieval, I mean from at least 1st to 17th centuries AD, if you are going to post something as fantasy, then post something that looks like it has a theme from that time period, or more ancient-looking stuff such as those from LOTR (pretty easy as the majority of BM is based on).

Since the bands mentioned in that old thread are too much modern goth romantic Wampyres/Warwulves of Transylvania in the 1800s and neo-Vikings/Pagans from Scandinavia/Eastern Europe in 1996, not really medieval.

Moonblood is full of dungeons & dragons. Ditto for Forgotten Spell (Moonblood jr. as far as songtitles are concerned).

I should feel ashamed that I never listened to Moonblood, only their Split with Deathspell Omega, and their side was simply amazing, better than the Shaxul-era DsO side.

If any of you could recommend where and how to start with Moonblood, I would really appreciate it, because I am apparently losing a lot.

Sob a lua do bode (session from split with DsO + track from split with Katharsis) is their best material (in my humble opinion) and it comes with Blut & Krieg who a lot of people seem to consider their best album on both vinyl and CD rereleases.
If you are into vinyls you can still get the From Hell box pretty cheap that contains a very big chunk of their best songs including their album Taste Our German Steel.
Other than that there is also the essential The Winter Falls over the Land demo that has also been rereleased on CD and vinyl (vinyl is a bit hard to get now).

I was thinking Forgotten Spell too. They have a song "Medieval Tunes" that is actually a Moonblood cover and a similar-sounding original song on the album called "Aporrhia." Both songs are instrumentals that give off very medieval vibes.

Nefaria's "True Honor" demo is another one I think.

Also, of course there's actual medieval music out there that people still play. Kassiani is pretty cool.

Iskandr's second album has a kind of old school medieval black metal style, in the vein of old Enslaved, Hades and viking era Bathory, with medieval lyrical themes.

Maybe this fits the description of this thread.

Disregarding the 20 hours worth of demos and rehearsals, their discography isn't that big as to be picky. The DSO split is a good start.
