What is the difference between the two different Arise! remasters? Any specific recommendations regarding remasters / original master?
And of course the compulsory question about any BoB record, are there any major fuckups on their version of Monolith that would make one inclined to pay a bit more for the original?

I've only recently put time into giving this band a proper listen and I'm loving Arise!.

arise - i've got the 2004 reissue + 7" w/ right to ride and beyond the sun that was released and pressed by rainbo records. it was remastered by george horn and jello biafra, same as the 2000 reissue on alternative tentacles. sounds quite good, i assume the alternative tentacles reissue is pretty much the same but i'm not sure where it was pressed. can't speak for the 2014 remaster/reissue.

for monolith, i have no idea what the BoB version is like, but the originals are generally pretty affordable either way. i got an original years ago for pretty cheap and it sounds great, for the price difference i'd go for that and pass BoB

Winter is probably my favourite single of all time. one of the greatest bands that will exist in my lifetime, i'm grateful I had a chance to see them.

Their best release indeed.

Gave some of their other stuff a listen years ago but never clicked.

Agreed, the only one I like from them as well.

Cheers for the info, I'll hit up discogs for the Alternative Tentacles and Heavy Metal Records versions at some point.

What do you guys think of the Power Remains recording? Those versions are so intense and awesome. Also, how did you feel about Redux? I'm one of those that hated Sonic Mass, particularly because Redux had me thinking a modern version of old Amebix's sound was coming. Come to think of it, maybe I should revisit Sonic Mass now that I won't have any surprises.

I'd be thankful if someone is willing to scan the inserts of 80s vinyl releases.

Sonic Mass is an OK comeback album but "Knights of the Black Sun" is the best song from 2000 onwards that doesn't belong to CF's Monotheist.

Just my two cents.

As for the poll, I have a soft spot for Arise! and also Monolith for "Last Will and Testament" alone. But truth is that the Spiderleg pre-LP stuff is what I'm revisiting the most.

Not the biggest fan of Sonic Mass and Tau Cross but I have a really soft spot for Baron's voice so I play those from time to time.

First Tau Cross was massive! Unfortunately the sophomore album sounded really dull and boring to my ears...

I just listened to one song from Sonic Mass and I thought it was so awful I never bothered to check out the album. Maybe I should give it a shot, giving all the praise it got.
But then again, Monotheist also got a huge amount of praise, even in this very same thread and I think that album fucking sucks so maybe I'm just not on the same page as most people when it comes to new records by old bands.

I found that all the praise of Monotheist came from how it sounded like and not its actual songs which were pretty fucking dull. I don't remember a single riff that could be placed next to their classic material as if they came from the same band. But I've always cared more about the songwriting and the riffs than the sound of a band (although it's very important, specially in metal), while I've found a lot of people tend to put that first and that's why they can listen to 1000 different ripoff/derivative bands while I usually don't see any point in that.
