Looking for bands that play in the same style as old Samael; recently I acquired the Taranis - Obscurity(demo), re-released CD and I found it to be really good.

Any suggestions?

Also looking for the Taranis - Faust CD.

Taranis was my 1st guess. maybe Anael...

that first Samael is all you need for that style.

Try some Polish bands like Padnemonium "Devilry" demo or Dark Opera "Day of Pariah" demo.

there is some stuff i heard from a band called ANAEL who, on a split with LUST(CAN) released some years ago are an absolute carbon copy of the sound of at least the 1st and 2nd SAMAEL.

Yes, I agree and I do own that masterpiece, but I'm still interested in hearing other bands like/idolize them.

I'll have to checkout Anael, which of their release would you suggest; don't think their logo could look anymore like Samael...lol.

This what I have for Samael CD's.

Samael: Worship Him
Samael: Worship Him (DELUXE)
Samael: Blood Ritual
Samael: Ceremony of the Opposites
Samael: Medieval Prophecy
Samael: Into the Infernal storm of Evil
Samael: Into the infernal Storm of Evil 1988 - 1994
Samael: Live In the Dark
Samael/Tiamat: Live

I'll also checkout both Alastis and Pandemonium too.

I recently got a tape of Helslakt in distro.
Well, the most common thing with Samael is that they are also from Switzerland, hehe, but I think they have some similarities in music.

Black Angel : Rites sounds very Blood Ritual inspired
the rest of their disco is pretty worthless but that one demo is really good

"On Wings Of Mercury" first, then "Necromantic Rituals" and "From Arcane Fires" if you're still interested in more.

Nebiras - Our Blood For His Glory cassette. Total Samael worship, down to circumscribed triangle sigil.

wanted to put this on vinyl some time ago... same guy did the classic SEA metal zine Vortex from the East.

Tiamat "Sumerian Cry" sounded like Samael.
It was black metal with a slight Swedish death metal influence, which was interesting.

I thought Anael "Necromantic Rituals" was pretty good.

Misery from Switzerland. Like the old Black-Doom Samael minus the devil worshipping.

Necrofeast from Netherlands. They sound like old demo-Samael-era at times.

Rain from Switzerland. Like some newer style Samael.

I second old Pandemonium from Poland. Godly band. Their 2nd last CD "The Zonei" is also heavy new-era Samael worship, done even better.
