=====================================

Tankcrimes announces an ABSCESS / POPULATION REDUCTION split LP/CD coming Spring 2009. The split, brought on by a fan-based cover song years ago, has 7 new tracks from Abscess and 6 new ones, plus a Haemorrhage cover from Population Reduction. An unholy match of Abscess' down tuned punk and death metal vs. Population Reduction's riff heavy thrash and grindcore. Cover art by Chris Reifert.

In 2005, Population Reduction contacted Chris Reifert of Abscess with a demo tape including a cover of Abscess' "I Don't Give a Fuck." Population Reduction had just made plans to release their first EP on Tankcrimes ("At the Throats of Man Forever" 2005) and wanted permission to include their version of the Abscess song on the record. To their surprise, Chris replied that he loved their version of the song and gave them the go ahead. A friendship was born and now, 4 years later, the split album will emerge out that fan-based cover song.

Reifert had this to say about the new Abscess songs: "The recordings went quick, sleazy and dirty like they often do. We put some adrenaline and ugliness in there that will curl your toes and kill your neighbors' lawn. Nothing fancy this time, just raw, sick and brutal noize!"

Peter Svoboda, Population Reduction guitarist, said of their recording: "We did our damndest to bring the A-game on this one. We needed to sound like we belong in the same record bin as Abscess, much less on the flip side of the vinyl," and added, "Doing a split with Abscess is like losing your virginity. At least if you're in Population Reduction...which is to say, you know that by comparison you really didn't do a great job, but you are nevertheless really fucking proud of yourself."

Population Reduction are not alone in being stoked for the record—it has truly come full circle for them. Reifert, on the split: "It's killer doing a split with the masters of the unclean and demented, Population Reduction! They are twisted mutants who will crawl up your leg and munch on your spleen. Their tracks should make your head explode, "Scanners" style! We are pleased to join the ranks of the crazy Tankcrimes universe—there's a lot to be heard and crushed by there."

The recordings have been mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound (Ghoul, Impaled, Magrudergrind, Voetsek) and the record will be out Spring 2009.

Abscess will be playing the Los Angeles Murder Fest and also the Maryland Death Fest in May. Population Reduction has upcoming California gigs with General Surgery, Ghoul, Toxic Holocaust and will be battling it out at this year's annual "Speed Trials" at legendary Berkeley punk venue 924 Gilman.

Wow, they seem to be really prolific these days... I haven't even gotten the split with Bonesaw (a great band) yet!!

Bourbon, Blood and Butchery? High On Desolation? Fucking genius if you ask me.

Unfortunately the split will not be out in time for LA Murderfest, but they will have it at MDF. Available from my webstore in about a week and in stores after memorial day.

There are 2 new songs up now at Tankcrimes shitspace...

Beware there is hardcore punk rock n roll up there as well.

ABSCESS will have HUGE, FREE screen printed posters of the cover art at each fest, first come, first served. About 50 per show so they will go fast.

Not at all, and that Abscess song was right up that alley as well! Killer! Didn't like the production on Horrorhammer (apart from that, great album), sounds like everything's sorted now.
