Getting some Vexovoid vibes from this one. Similar atmosphere.

The filter on The Curator's voice is still a little strange. It sounds like an artificial version of the style he's been using this whole time. He has that dusty roar with the excess breath adding a whisper underneath. Now the filter is adding the whisper though. Not a big deal but it'll take some getting used to.

so-called atmosphere is way different than that of vexovoid's

I'm not sure why you assume we both hear Vexovoid (or any album for that matter) the same way. Phathom sounds like B side of Vexovoid to me. Sorry.

Edit: For the record, I love Vexovoid. Not using it as a knock on ION.

The song reminded me of the old stuff since the first seconds and it was nice to read about reaquiring of the old guitar later. However, when I read about "outportaling portal" and the enthusiastic raving of some of the people in the other thread I expected the music to be much crazier.

The album that they were alluding to when they said "outportaling portal" is not ION. That album is unreleased/hasn't seen the light of day.

This is so fucking good. The higher tuning and greater clarity in the production has not muted the swirling cacophony at all. If anything, this is even more abrasive than earlier work.

Vinyl copies arrived safely. The layout and presentation are awesome. This LP will be up for preorders next week but will begin shipping from January 22nd.

Had a first listen of the album, it is good, but I miss the eerie, otherworldy atmosphere of the early albums... this is very... well, technical I guess. Perfectly fitting artwork and presentation though, cold electric discharges all around...

I've had my copy since Saturday and every day it sounds different. It's even more to take in than a longtime fan would expect. I feel like the first four albums were Horror as seen from below, from the afflicted, while ION is Horror from above, the Cause. It's horrifying but not scary or as said above "eerie". This album strikes instead of lurches.

My only complaint is the lack of lyrics. I was just as excited for the words as I was the sound. The few hidden lines in Orbmorphia were already a bummer.

Is the album instrumental or just light on vocals? Metal Archives doesn't have any lyrics listed, not that that really means anything.

Same as normal as far as the amount of vocals. The booklet only has a few words from each song though.

I wasn't gonna post anything until after the release date, but since people have already started talking about it... I've been listening to the leak all week and it completely lives up to the two preview tracks.

As chaotic as Vexovoid but just rawer and more focused. The riffing sounds more METAL than ever before too... like the most fucked up atonal ripping thrash. And the final ambient track isn't just there for effect... it's a genuinely disturbing piece of music.

Will be buying Very Happy

Friday can't come soon enough, thankful I'm not working(neither is most of Australia) so I can listen to it about 80 times.

Gotcha. You said lyrics and I mistook that to mean vocals.

Gave it a whirl today, I really enjoyed it.

It doesn't have the dense production that made you felt like you were being suffocated and beaten to death at the same time, I admire the route they took and it's really enjoyable, very weird sounding but a perfect match for them. Big fan

The album's good but I wish the production was thicker and the guitar tone was sludgier (also maybe detuned would sound better). Swarth is still my favorite but this is a welcomed edition to the Portal catalogue.
