Just check this track - damn, haven't heard more "meat" in any other hardcore outfit:

Cold blue is a damn good album. Been listening to that a bit lately myself.

How about new metalcore bands? Obviously talking the good oldschool kind here. I'm into this pretty hard lately

true, but i won't really support a band if they are PC warriors. Makes me think they're in it for more than just art.

Same could be said about countless righty bands.

yeah you're right. except most of the time, the mainstream "alt" media sources (vice, pitchfork, etc) don't latch on to right wing bands, so it doesn't really incentivize the right wingers, as they aren't going to get the coverage anyhow. I think right wing bands are more authentic (seemingly) because they should know ahead of time that those politics will alienate them from getting any sort of "success"
Think about left bands like GLOSS. most people wouldn't give a shit about them if they just heard their music. Their image/gimmick of SJW bullshit is the reason people like bands like that. And the "alt" media sources reward those gimmicks with coverage.

what hardcore punk bands have "riffs"? seems like a genre built on just anger and fast drumming, not big riffs. this is a general question, not a confrontational one.

Well, they all do, unless they're straight up playing random notes and chords??? Now are they heavy, unique, interesting, ferocious, "big" as you said or another qualifier, that's up to perception I suppose...

When I ask "do they have riffs" that's tongue-in-cheek way of saying "do they have (good) riffs?" Wink

Okay. I see things a bit differently. The first 2 Minor Threat 7"s are my favorite USHC records ever but I wouldn't dare consider anything on either 7" a "riff" like I consider "Into The Void" or "God Of Emptiness" a riff.

Here's my contribution to this thread...

and if you don't mind the constant humor and samples,

Sordo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gig6t95hCoQ

Where were you in 2006 - 2010 when that's what every hardcore band sounded like?

lol i definitely would have specified had that been the case. it's definitely no In Cold Blood but for some reason I had assumed they would have already listened to them. @ frank_zito if you haven't listened, In Cold Blood is really great

GLOSS got a lot of coverage from outside press who don't usually cover hardcore/punk, much less the kind that band plays. A lot of people who don't listen to that style, latched onto them. At the same time, no one who I know that is familiar with the style they were going for bought into that band. They were bland and tacky, it was obvious to anyone not drinking the kool aid. They're done now, good riddance.
